Richard Hsu is a Partner at Shearman & Sterling’s Silicon Valley office where he advises companies on corporate, licensing and associated business and intellectual property issues.   Before joining Shearman & Sterling, he was a partner at King & Spalding, and prior to that, was Co-Managing Partner and Practice Group Leader at Townsend and Townsend and Crew (now Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton).

Prior to joining Townsend, Mr. Hsu was at Venture Law Group (founded by Craig Johnson at Wilson Sonsini), where he represented more than 100 venture-backed startup technology companies.  Mr. Hsu was also former General Counsel at Cyrano Sciences, Inc. (acquired by Smiths Detection), a venture-backed company founded by Caltech Professors Nathan S.  Lewis and Nobel Laureate Robert H. Grubbs.

Mr. Hsu is a faculty member of the Practicing Law Institute (PLI) and Stanford Director’s College, and was elected to the Executive Committee of the California State Bar IP Section.  His articles have appeared in the San Francisco Daily Journal, New York Times, and the Los Angeles Business Journal.
