Making my own Rubik’s Cube

As a lawyer, I don’t get a chance to build many things, but I wanted to teach my daughter how to solve the Rubik’s cube, so I built a magnetic one* that you can take apart and put back together again.  Here is a short video about it:

  8. Richard,

A very impressive job of tinkering and parenting. I can see the subtle angling to put a second generation of Hsus into Cal Tech.

  9. I assume it’s patented, of course! If you ever mass produce them, sign me up as a beta tester!

Really nice Richard. Cool project, excellent video and story. Would enjoy seeing your daughter solve the cube as you describe and do.

  16. I love this rubix cube. I recall that there a was a big thing about the central joint on the cube that allowed all the twisting being novel way back in the ’80s– your magnetic idea is a really elegant solution– it is cool and beautiful!

  17. Great site, love the look and feel.. but I must agree with some of the comments above… Rubik’s cube caused some of the biggest head aches I have ever had.. But.. I’d love to take a crack at this one.. put me on the wait list I’ll be the first in-line to buy one.

  18. Great blog, very useful… and cool video — ambitious and sweet ;) Thanks for sharing!

  19. Very clever, Richard! I love your new website – VERY impressive!

  20. The blog is succinct & informative. You’ve captured the elusive combo of brevity & knowledge needed in our world of instantaneous news & information.

  21. I like the blog, and I really, REALLY like the “one page” idea. The video with the magnetic Rubik’s cube is great…but I have to ask, did you file a patent on that before you published the video? :p
